What happens when I make an offer?
For both Adverts in the Paper and those submitted Online, use the "Contact" button if you are interested. For Paper Adverts this will reveal the phone number of the Adverts Owner. It is up to yourself and the Adverts Owner to then come to an arrangement. For Online Adverts, the "Contact" Button will provide access to a Contact Form. Send your message including contact details and then wait for the Owner of the Advert to get in contact. Again - it is then up to yourself and the Owner to strike a deal.
Is this an online auction where people make offers?
Not really. All the system does is provide a forum for prospective interested parties to contact each other. The details of the haggling are then left to the parties themselves, to be conducted in private. Unlike an auction - you won't see rival bids and rivals won't see your bids.
Why should I register?
Registration allows you to place Adverts in the Online listings. It will also provide many other - "Registered User Only" - features in the coming months. Keep coming back to see what additional services have been added. To name but a few of these coming features: the ability to include photographs of items; the ability to place Adverts into the Paper; and the ability to read ALL of the Adverts in the Paper.
What are bookmarks?
Bookmarks are "Marked Adverts" that are put aside for later examination. For example, you might scan the listings for items of interest and find several items along the way. You can "Bookmark" these items by clicking on the "Bookmark" Button underneath each Advert of interest. Then, when finished browsing, you can view your bookmarked items by selecting the "Bookmarks Only" checkbox and pressing the "go" Button. You can save and delete Bookmarks by selecting the "Edit Bookmarks" function on the right-hand side of the screen. Note: You can currently have 25 items bookmarked at a time. If you have a full 25 items in your bookmarks and you bookmark another, 26th, item - your oldest bookmark will be replaced with the new one.
What happens if I
"Frozen" Adverts are like Bookmarks, in that they allow you to mark Adverts of interest for comparison purposes. They differ in one essential way: all "Frozen" Adverts will be listed at the top of ANY results/listings. That is they follow you as you browse through a site. Bookmarks are used to mark items for comparison or examination later. Frozen Adverts are for a more immediate comparison. You can have 6 "Frozen" Adverts at a time and, in the same way Bookmarks are replaced, the oldest Frozen Advert (the item you Froze first) will be replaced in you add a seventh Item. Special Note: Frozen Adverts will be shown regardless of what search criteria you are using. If you Freeze an item from a search for "Toyota Seca Car" and then conduct a search for "Pentium Computer" the Frozen Item will still appear at the top of each results page.
How can I get in touch with the owner of an Advert?
Select the "Contact" button underneath the Advert.
How can I pay the seller online?
You can't. Making and resolving the deal and any payment is between you and the Advert Owner.
I notice there are a lot of sellers in Perth, is this a Perth-only site?
Quokka Press is based in Perth, Western Australia. As a result a large proportion of our users reside in Perth or WA. We do have a keen following from national and international users as well, so don't worry if you're not a "local".
I made an offer but the seller never contacted me. What should I do?
You can try to "Contact" them again. We only provide a means for interested parties to contact each other. We cannot guarantee that the owner of an Advert will respond. If you have repeated difficulty contacting an owner just email support@quokka-online.com and we'll see what we can do to help.
I suspect that a seller I contacted may be dealing in stolen goods.
You can contact the police or just email us at support@quokka-online.com and we'll follow it up for you.
Does Quokka provide any assurances regarding the sellers or their goods?
No. However, there are significant laws designed to protect consumers. Contact the Department of Fair Trading if you have any concerns.
Where can I buy the paper Quokka?
Many newsagencies, delicatessans and service stations around Western Australia. You can also subscribe. Contact Quokka Press on 9333 3067.

What are VMBs? (Voice Mail Boxes)
VMBs (Voice Mail Boxes) are used in personal adverts as a means of contact. If you wish to leave a message/reply on a VMB call 1902-292-022 and using the VMB number in the Quokka advert follow the prompts to leave your message. Calls are charged at $2.20 per minute (higher call charges may apply from mobiles or public phones.)

How much does it cost to place an ad in the Quokka?
Private listings are Free. To place commercial Adverts in the Paper please see our rates on the "About" page. Currently commercial Ad Placement Online is free - but this will be changing in the coming months.
I am a business. Can I list
No. All Commercial Adverts require payment and that includes all Display Adverts.
How can I place an ad online?
To start - you must register. Once registered you can access placement functions after logging in. To place a new Advert use the "Create Ads" button on the right-hand side of the screen.
How can I place an ad in the paper Quokka?
Please Contact Quokka Press on 9333 3000 and an operator will assist.
Do all online ads also appear in the paper Quokka?
At the moment - no Advert submitted Online will appear in the paper. This will change in the coming months. Please be patient - the feature is coming.
Do all ads in the paper Quokka also appear online?
Not at the moment, though this will be changing soon. Currently only "Repeat" Adverts from the Paper are listed.
What is the difference between
Online Adverts are those Adverts submitted using the Online system. Paper Adverts are those uploaded from the Paper.
Can I include a picture of the item I
This feature will be coming soon. Watch this space.
Can I include any HTML code in the ads I place online?
No. This is due to certain security issues that this practice would raise. Unscrupulous users could insert malicious "code".
Can I receive payment online?
No. Monetary issues are between you and other interested parties. We just provide the contact mechanism.
How long will my ad remain online?
One week. After that time it will be "expired". If you want it online again, just log in and resubmit the Advert by selecting the "List" button underneath the Advert. If an Advert remains unlisted for a week it is then deleted.

Are there any restrictions on what I can sell in the Quokka?
Anything illegal. If you aren't certain - submit the Advert - our operators will let you know by either Accepting or Denying the listing.
What determines the order of ad listing when someone does a search?
The Quokka Online seach facility uses an advanced spatial weighting system. As a result, including a word more than a few times will NOT increase the Adverts ranking. After issues of search relevance are accounted for the Listings appear in date order. So the best way to improve your ranking is to get in early (Thursday Morning).
Can I see how many people have viewed my ad?
Beneath each Advert you will see a listing for the number of Offers made. This reveals the number of people interested in contacting the Advert Owner. It is far more relevant to know this than the number of people who 'may' have seen an Advert.
How many buyers come to Quokka each day?
Without revealing exact statistics we can say that we have over 100 000 Pages viewed per week - so that's a lot of buyers.
What protection do I have for my Privacy?

I wish to use a VMB (Voice Mail Box) in my personal advert. How do I create one?
To create a VMB dial 9301-9405 and follow the prompts to set up your Voice Mail Box and pin number. Local call charges only apply when setting up your VMB (Perth only). Use the access number 4321 and pin number 1234 to generate your own VMB and pin. To leave your voice ad/retrieve replies dial 1902-291-008 and follow the prompts to leave and listen to your messages. Once your VMB is created you can now use this number in your online/paper advert. Calls are charged at 55c per minute. (Higher call charges may apply from mobile or public phones). To place your ad in the paper or if you have any enquiries regarding VMBs please call the Quokka on 9333 3000.

We have been developing our online presence for a few years now, striving to constantly improve. Until we're happy with the site we've left the service as a free one. This will be changing. However, as a Free Ad Paper, we are resolved to maintaining as many Free features as possible. Don't worry - you'll still be able to place and view Private Adverts for Free.
